Mother’s Day May Not be All Flowers
When some of our more “celebrated” holidays roll around, I can’t help but think of those who may be having a hard time.
Mother’s Day is one of those days. Although our society paints this ideal picture of the wonderful relationship we all should have with our mothers, for some, it certainly isn’t the case. Some may have estranged relationships with their moms. Some may be grieving the loss of their mom. Some may simply be far away and not able to spend the day with their mom. The list goes on and on.
For all the people who the holiday could be challenging for, I wish somehow that Hallmark could take note of that. (The jewlers and chocolatiers as well!) The reminders are everywhere! Keep in mind, it’s just one day, and this too shall pass.
As this holiday approaches, and certainly on Mother’s Day, take good care of yourself. Reach out to a friend if you need to. Reach out to those who may be struggling (they may not tell you!), and for those who are Moms, or who will be celebrating the day with your Mom or a Mom-figure, enjoy the day and the time you spend together.
Please don’t hesitate to reach out should you or someone you know need counseling.
